Maruti Kizashi Will Be Manufactured In India

A major automobile market shareholder of the hatchback cars in India, Maruti Suzuki is looking forward to get its niche market in the luxury sedans and saloons segment. Before, Maruti worked its way to get through the premium car market throgh the Maruti Grand Vitara but the efforts seem to fall short of the market expectations. Now, Maruti is planning to launch the Maruti Kizashi by the end of the year.

The Maruti Kizashi is expected to be a market sensation especially that it will be priced at a 17 to 24 lacks price range. The brand's soon to be released model will compete with the major premium brands like Skoda Superb, Toyota Camry and Honda Accord. The Maruti Kizashi car will come in 2.4 liter DOHC inline four cylinder petrol engine.

The peak power of the car is 180 bhp and torque of 170 lb-ft. It has already been showcased by Maruti at the Delhi Auto Expo 2010.

Maruti has been a dominant brand in the small cars market in the last two decades and currently posses fifty percent of the market share with eight hatchback cars in the market. These models are Maruti Alto, A-Star, Eeco, Ritz, SX4, Swift, Wagon R and Zen Estilo respectively.

A senior official from Maruti Suzuki has stated that they will be looking forward to manufacturing Kizashi in India as it would also be the time when they start getting the sales volume out of the CBU's and CKD's. The company also formulates for long term manufacturing plans of the car in India. Initially the Maruti Kizashi model cars will be imported in India as CBY thus it will increase the base price of the model by more than twice its original price excluding the custom charges and other imposed duties and taxes by the government.

The company sees that if the sales figures of the Kizashi model will be adequate then it would get the cars in India through CKD.

 

The CKD process would also give the car an additional sixty percent increase from the base price. To iron out such problems, the company is now having long term plans of manufacturing Kizashi in India at its Manesar manufacturing facility.

New Sedan Model from General Motors for India - Baojun 630

General Motors is planning to bring a new sedan model to Indian shores since a long time. There had been several reports of a new Chevy sedan coming to India especially since Aveo did not bring in the required numbers as expected by the American auto maker. Now the company is planning to introduce Boujon 630 sedan model in the Indian market in association with its Chinese joint venture partner SAIC.

The model is expected to co-exist with existing Aveo sedan as there are no reports of Chevrolet phasing out its entry level model. According to the latest reports from Shanghai Securities News, SAIC-GM-Wuling (SGMW), one of GM China's main joint ventures had recently rolled out its first own-brand Baojun 630 passenger car which the automaker is considering exporting to India and other overseas markets through technology transfer.

General Motors is quite bullish especially in India and China where it taking an aggressive stance. “We will launch a total of six new products and 14 new variants in India in the next two years,” said Karl Slym, president and managing director, General Motors India. Of these six vehicles, four will be passenger cars and two light commercial vehicles, he said. The new Boujon 630 model can be one of the new entrants in the sedan segment and will compete with models like Tata Manza and Swift Dzire.

Toyota Hatchback Model to be Named as Etios Liva

Toyota is ready to reveal its new sedan variant Toyota Etios sedan model on December 01. Its hatchback model will be introduced three months later in March 2011. According to the latest industry sources, the hatchback model will be christened as Toyota Etios Liva which will be a sub-range of brand Etios. The naming strategy is quite similar to Maruti Swift and Swift Dzire where the sedan is an extension of the Swift brand.

The model to be launched in March 2011 will be powered by a 1.2L engine producing 80 bhp power. It will weigh in around 890kg without compromising on safety or fuel efficiency. The official unveiling of brand name for hatchback will take place at the launch ceremony of sedan variant in Bangalore tomorrow.

Toyota Etios Liva is expected to be launched in three variants Liva V, Liva J and Liva G. Toyota later on also intends to introduce the diesel model of the car powered by turbo-charged 1.4L diesel engine. Toyota Etios sedan and hatchback claim to be the most spacious sedan in their segment. Both cars have ARAI certification of mileage of 17+ kmpl.

Electric Nissan Leaf Named 2011 European Car of the Year

A panel of journalists has named the battery-powered Nissan Leaf has been named 2011 European Car of the Year. It is the first all-electric car to be chosen for the award.

"The jury acknowledged today that the Nissan LEAF is a breakthrough for electric cars. Nissan LEAF is the first EV that can match conventional cars in many respects," said Hakan Matson, head of the jury for the award.

The five-passenger, five-door hatchback goes on sale in the United States in December. It is the first modern, mass-produced all-electric car available from a major manufacturer, and is the first of a big push from the Nissan-Renault alliance that the company says will put half a million electric cars on the world’s roads in just a few years.

Last week the Leaf was recognized by the EPA as being the cleanest mid-size car available, giving it a fuel economy rating equivalent to 99 mpg, although the government agency says it can only travel 73 miles per charge. Nissan says it is capable of covering up to 100 miles before it needs to be plugged in to be recharged, and several independent testers have confirmed that claim.

The Leaf is also competing for 2011 North American Car of the Year honors, against a wide variety of vehicles that ranges from the extended-range electric Chevrolet volt to the Jaguar XJ luxury sedan. The winner will be announced at the 2011 Detroit International Auto Show in January.

Scoop – Aprilia to enter India in December 2010 with RSV4 Factory superbike

Most of the bikers in India all already set to or have introduced the liter class bikes and it seems Aprilia doesn’t want to miss this good opportunity to land in the Indian markets. So, on the same lines Aprilia is all set to launch its liter class bike RSV4 factory liter class superbike in December 2010.

The RSV4 is powered with a 999.6cc V4 engine and rages out 180 hp while the dry weight goes to 179 kg. As the name suggests, the ‘Factory’ machine uses exotic elements and tuning to give the rider a hardcore track tool.

The carbon fiber used ensures to keep the weight of the bike down while the electronics employed makes sure you dent miss out on any fun in life. Though there is no confirmed news about the price of the new RSV4, there has been speculation that if they want it to be popular amidst the competition such as BMW and Ducati, it needs to be competitively priced.

The official announcement is expected to reach us by December 2010 while the sale is to begin by early next year. The Piaggio network will be assisting Aprilia in setting its foot in India and authorized service centers will be coming up in strategic locations.

The first Aprilia dealership and service center is planned to be in Pune. If the response is pretty good, Aprilia will spread its networks like wildfire.

Jaguar marks its 75th anniversary by releasing a new app

Luxury car maker Jaguar are planning to mark their 75^th anniversary with the unveiling of a brand new app which charts the iconic brand’s rise to fame.


The latest Jaguar model, the C-X75, features heavily in the new application launched by Jaguar. The new model was debuted at the Los Angeles Auto Show recently and caused quite a stir amongst the visitors.

The new app has been described as a “Jaguar Encyclopaedia” as it looks back over the luxury car brands history, the cars which helped make the brand the icon it is today, and how Jaguar has developed over the years, and also its plans for the future.

With archive images, videos and interviews with the people behind the cars, the Jaguar app is a must for any car enthusiast. Those of you who are excited at the prospect of the new C-X75, the application offers exclusive videos of the new car, and in-depth interviews with the people behind the concept.

The app, which can be viewed on iPhones and iPads, can be downloaded for free online.
Jaguar also organized a procession of 75 Jaguars to drive en-convoy from Coventry Transport Museum to Goodwood Revival, via London’s Mayfair Hotel, as part of the 75^th anniversary celebrations. Jaguar models from the vintage vehicles dating back to the 30’s, to the latest models and everything in between took part in the celebratory procession.

Bajaj Motorcycles Get Costlier By 2 %

After Hero Honda, Bajaj is the only manufacturer who sells at a pace very much in competition with the former. The brand has given the Indian two wheeler sector a lot and is still working on getting better with every new launch on the cards. The Bajaj Pulsar including all the models starting from the Pulsar 135LS, 150,  180, 200 upto Pulsar 220.


The brand’s products are extremely good and well priced but the bad news is that the company has increased the prices of all its two wheeler products by as high as 2% with effect from 1st October 2010. Bajaj Auto Managing Director Rajiv Bajaj told reporters,"We have raised prices by up to 2 per cent for almost all two-wheeler models from October 1,"


The price hike trend initiated my major manufacturers like Tata, Maruti Suzuki, Mahindra & Mahindra owing to rising input costs is being followed by two wheeler brands also and Bajaj is the first one to take this step. Reported sales for Bajaj in the month of September were 3,14,515 units which is 26% percent growth in what it sold in the same month, the previous year.

Now we have to see how much sales are sacrificed due to the price change or no sales are sacrificed since it is the most loved brand. We will have to wait and watch.

The car also has three distinct driving modes: eco, normal and sport. In eco mode, the range can be boosted by up to 25 per cent over when it is in sport mode. In sport mode, Honda claims its performance is similar to that of a car with a 2.0-litre petrol engine.

Renault and Nissan share the same plant in Chennai to manufacture their cars for the Indian car market. The two automakers have a global joint-venture to share their technology as well. Renault now plans to launch a new small car, which will be based on the Micra platform.

Design:
 

The new Renault small car will be based on the Micra platform and so the car will have the same underpinnings which is basically struts for the front and torsion beam at the rear. The Renault small car will be more aggressive in terms of styling when compared to the Nissan Micra.

Engine:

The new Renault small car, will be powered by the same three pot 1.2-litre petrol engine which does duty on the Nissan Micra. Even though, this engine has three cylinders, the NVH levels are low especially while idling – which is generally the issue with most of the three cylinder engines as the vibration levels are higher due to balance issues. These new engine blocks are now machined by a method called bore circularity which has helped reduce friction by 20% if compared to a conventional four-cylinder engine. This helps to increase the power output, fuel efficiency and even the life of the engine; which in short makes the engine rev freely while making it quicker and reliable too.

Features:

The Renault small car is built with the qualities of the Nissan Micra. The feature will feature most of the features of a premium hatchback. This should include safety features like airbags and other important features which are included in most of the premium hatchbacks.

Competitors:

The new Renault small car will compete with the Maruti Suzuki Swift, Rtiz; Hyundai i20, Skoda Fabia, Fiat Grande Punto, Volkswagen Polo, Chevrolet Beat, Ford Figo and its sibling Nissan Micra.

Overall Evaluation:

The new Renault small car will priced a notch higher than the Nissan Micra, and Renault is trying to establish itself as a premium brand in India. So, the start will be a bit difficult for the French manufacturer, and it will boil down to the build quality and service network which Renault will provide to its customers.

Chevrolet Sail Coming in End 2011

Chevrolet plans to launch four new cars in 2011 and the Chevrolet Sail is one of them. The Sail is the first GM car that is designed and developed completely in China. This has helped GM to bring down its development cost. The Sail gets the new Chevrolet family design cues like the bold and modern hood with a high crown and prominent strakes led by a large bowtie Chevrolet logo.

The Sail is based on the platform of the Opel Corsa, that was earlier sold by General Motors in India. This entire product is developed by GM without anything from its Chinese partner. Chevrolet plans to plonk the Sail with 1.4-litre petrol and 1.3-litre diesel engine. This will be the 1.3-litre multijet engine developed by Fiat. The Sail will compete with the Maruti Suzuki Swift DZire, Renault Logan and Tata Indigo Manza.  The Chevrolet Sail is likely to be priced close to Rs 6-7.5 lakhs, and this should the ideal replacement for the currently being sold Chevrolet Aveo.
