The car will be unveiled in full at the 2011 Geneva Motor Show next March – but interestingly, the new Hyundai i40 will debut first as an estate car only, with the saloon following later in the year.
Hyundai i40: developed for Europe
The move to introduce the estate version of the new i40 first reflects the European car market’s preference for estates over saloons at the present time.
Estate version to be available first
Precise details about the new i40 remain scarce, but it becomes the first Hyundai to compete in this class that has been specifically developed for Europe. It was even designed at Hyundai’s Rüsselshiem R&D centre in Germany.
Although only highly stylised images are available thus far, the family resemblance to other recent Hyundais is clear. And thank heavens it doesn’t share front-end visuals with the latest, similarly proportioned Hyundai Sonata. Sold in other parts of the world, the Sonata is not a pretty car…
‘Most innovative’ Hyundai
i40 will be packed with efficient technology
Hyundai is promising the i40 will become its most innovative model in Europe.
To this end, the new car will be packed with eco-friendly technology, brought together under the 'Blue Drive' label. The aim is best-in-class performance and fuel economy, and ‘very low’ CO2 emissions.
The i40 will also be sold with a 'Five Year Triple Care' package, comprising a five-year unlimited mileage warranty, five years’ roadside assistance and five years of health checks (no, that doesn’t sound the same as free servicing to us, either).
According to Vice President of Hyundai Motor Europe Allan Rushforth, “We have bold ambitions for Hyundai in Europe, and the new i40 will provide the momentum we need to achieve our goals in 2011 and beyond.
“We expect the quality of the new i40 to continue the development of our image in Europe and attract new customers to the Hyundai brand.”
