2011 TVS Apache RTR180 ABS
While most other motorcycle manufacturers are readying up their 250s to tap into the performance motorcycle segment, Hosur based TVS Motors has surprisingly been very quiet. Coming from TVS, this silence is a bit flummoxing as TVS is one manufacturer which takes track racing very seriously and has developed products like the Apache platform completely from it’s track racing programs.
While there had been some talk about a 220cc version of an Apache making the cut in 2010, it somehow failed to materialize with TVS preferring to concentrate on the bread and butter economuter segment.
Motorbeam reports that the TVS Apache RTR180, come February 2011 will be available with ABS. ABS, an acronym for Anti Lock Braking System is a very vital piece of safety equipment that will prevent locking up of the motorcycle’s wheels even under extreme braking.
This will further ensure that the motorcycle does not skid due to locked up brakes and thus can prevent a tumble. The TVS Apache RTR180 might not be exciting enough when compared to the 250cc+ motorcycles set to be launched shortly. But when it comes to improving the safety benchmark in the small capacity Indian motorcycle segment, it will go down in the India automotive history books as the first Indian motorcycle to feature the critical safety feature of ABS.
Meanwhile, the TVS Apache RTR180 ABS will cost about INR 8000 more than the non ABS version of the same motorcycle. And if you are still sitting on the fence about whether to spend the additional 8 thousand rupees on the ABS feature, we say, simply go for it. Safety first, everything else next!
