The thumping engines, the naked profile, the wind in your hair, there is no greater thrill or comfort than riding the king of Indian bikes through a crowded street or the open highway. Make no mistake, this is a real man’s (or real woman’s) bike. The biggest Enfield in the market, the Royal Enfield Classic 500 is a good looking bike in a classical way that is available in very unclassical colours, the turquoise being the most striking of the bunch.
Though retaining the basic shape of the old thumper, detailed changes in the appearance make it impossible to mistake it for any other motorcycle model in Royal Enfield’s India lineup. The Classic 500 is priced at Rs. Rs. 1,36,000.
The Royal Enfield Classic 500 is powered by a 499cc, single cylinder engine which generates maximum power of 27.2 bhp at 5250 rpm and peak torque of 41.3 Nm at 4000 rpm. The clutch and gearbox are situated outside, they are both integrated into the crankcase. Royal Enfield claims that the modern construction gives the Classic less moving parts, less transmission loss and less maintenance issues.
Royal Enfield Classic 500 comes with contemporary features like electric start and 280mm Disc brake at the front with internal expanding drum brake at the rear. Additionally, the EFI engine is married to a 5-speed gearbox. Royal Enfield has dumped the traditional carburettor for a modern electronic fuel injection system on the new bike so as to facilitate better air-fuel mixture optimization, smoother operation, better power delivery over a wide range of altitudes, and cleaner emissions. The Classic turns heads not because it wants to but because it can’t help it. You will appreciate the beat not just for the music it creates but also for the muted feeling of strength and power that it signifies. The view is even better when you are astride a Royal Enfield Classic 500 – whether moving or still. ’Nuff said!

The traditional Bullet 350 was rumoured to be discontinued but it soldiers on through with a newly constructed engine. On paper, the torque is down by 4 Nm which is theoretically further hampered by the fact that it is developed 1000 rpm higher in the rev band, but in practice, the extra bhp plus the ability to rev higher and more freely makes it actually more of a pleasure to ride on Indian roads. The Royal Enfield Classic 350 UCE really looks like a post World War II motorcycle. Royal Enfield has carefully tweaked the style of the Classic, but retains its retro roots. The round headlamps with its young guard, the analog valves, the individual semi with visible steel springs and deep-drawn fenders of the rear tire result in a successful combination of style elements of the ’50s. The front and rear mudguards are almost of the same looks as the 500 including the fuel tank and exhaust and headlight casing as well as the same single seat saddle.
The Royal Enfield Classic 350 motorcycle is powered by a 346cc engine from Thunderbird Twinspark which generates 19.8 bhp of maximum power at 5250 rpm with 28 Nm of maximum torque. The reason to launch the Classic with 346cc engine is that Royal Enfield doesn’t want this bike to be popular only among buyers who have the budget for the expensive 500. The Classic 350 can be yours for Rs. 90,880 in India.

The most controversial duckling of the Enfield flock, the Thunderbird has managed to stick around much longer than was predicted. While aficionados insist that it isn’t a true Bullet, others contend it is much better, but whatever the opinion it can’t be denied that this is the bike that expanded Enfield’s market from generational loyalists to well, loyal generalists. This bike is the favourite of most first-generation Royal Enfield owners in India. Related: Royal Enfield at Auto Expo 2010
Loads of chrome has been used to style the new Thunderbird Twinspark. Weld lines have become cleaner in, the cumbersome fuel tank extensions are absent and there is minimal graphic display. The color has become more attractive with strong vibrant shades. The display panel hides the lights when they are off, making it cool.
